Resume:
At the age of 15 years, I emigrated to Tenerife and resided there for approximately three years During the three years I lived abroad, I spent two years living with a family who spoke solely in Spanish. When I returned to the UK in 2002, I studied for a GCSE in Spanish, which helped me gain a better understanding of the Spanish language. In 2001, I commenced employment with First Choice and was based in Gran Canaria. Due to my ability to speak Spanish my duties with First Choice included; liaising with doctors and nurses when our guests needed medical attention, the police, and hoteliers. When my contract ended, I returned to Wales. In 2008, I commenced studying for my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies. As I wanted to improve my language skills further, I chose to study for a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation Studies which I passed in 2018 and then onto a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation the following year. Although it may appear that there are gaps in my involvement with Spanish, I have taken every opportunity to keep my Spanish skills active by listening to and watching documentaries in Spanish, reading books and newspapers, and also speaking Spanish when it is possible. The ability to understand and speak Spanish has aided me and other Spanish speakers in a variety of ways with my current jobs i.e. banking, and teaching English as a foreign language.
