Resume:
My experience with languages started from a very young age when I took a keen interest in Spanish and French during my infancy. This passion continued throughout high school and eventually lead me to decide to pursue a university degree in Translating and Interpreting (Spanish/English/French).
My university career permitted me the experience of translating into and out of all of my chosen languages and in various different language variants and cultures. I have completed translations related to business, political issues, social issues, promotional material, among many others. I decided, in my thesis, to focus on the specificity of culture when carrying out translations and how that can play into the overall quality of a translation. This experience equipped me with knowledge on culture-specific issues in translation I was never aware of and showed me just how important translation (and good quality translation) is. Translating not only words but the culture behind those words is something which I am very passionate about and something which I feel is neglected at times by translators in the hustle and bustle of translation in the modern day.
I have carried out translations for the Spanish consulate in Edinburgh related to academics, literature, architecture and culture which gave me priceless and instrumental experience on how some difficult cultural aspects can be translated into a language for consumption by a target audience with a completely different cultural awareness and understanding.
As I look to grow my own translation portfolio, I plan on continuing to hold closest the aspects of translation I feel are vital and I am excited to see what projects are still to come.
