Resume:
I graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland receiving a second-class upper division (2:1) degree in Languages (Interpreting & Translating) French/Spanish. During my 4 years at university, I was exposed to numerous types of texts for translation and an array of possible scenarios when an interpreter would be required. I translated texts ranging from newspaper articles to children’s books and interpreted at mock conferences and interviews. My degree also allowed me to participate in the Erasmus program where I spent 4 months living and studying in Nantes, France and 7 months living and studying in Granada, Spain. During my time abroad I was shown various new types of translation, I learned how to subtitle and use subtitling software and completed medical and legal translations. Thanks to the Erasmus program and showing me the various paths a translator can take, I now work as a trainee paralegal within a law firm in Scotland with the aspiration of moving towards becoming a legal translator. Whilst I am training in the legal sector, I would like to keep my language skills up and continue to strengthen my translation skills.
