Resume:
Languages have always been at the core of who I am, shaping my personal pursuits. As a fluent speaker of Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and now in the process of learning Italian, I’ve developed a profound appreciation for the ways languages open doors to different cultures and perspectives. My international experiences, having lived in Hong Kong and Argentina, further strengthened this passion, allowing me to connect more deeply with diverse communities and understand the nuances that language can convey across borders.
As a student of Social Sciences, I have immersed myself in academic texts in both Portuguese, Spanish and English. This dedication not only helps me stay updated in my academic field but also ensures that my proficiency in these languages remains sharp. In the past, I have undertaken translation projects within my field, translating academic texts and other materials. Although these projects were unpaid, they provided me with invaluable experience in handling the intricacies of translating.
I believe that translation is a technical skill and also a form of bridge-building, connecting different worlds and amplifying voices that might otherwise be unheard. This belief has shaped my professional ethics and approach to translation. Additionally, I bring strong soft skills that are essential for any translator: attention to detail, time management and adaptability.
My goal now is to contribute to organizations that align with my values and aspirations. Volunteering as a translator for Translations for Progress represents an opportunity to expand my experience and grow my resume and also to actively contribute to projects that aim to create an equitable world. As a United World College alumna, I have always been closely tied to organizations that strive for a better future through education, sustainability, and public service. I see my role as a translator as one that contributes to these missions by making important information accessible to broader audiences. In seeking this opportunity I aim to support organizations in their work for the public good, while also advancing my career in translation.
