• I have been the sole proprietor of my own professional translation company since 01/03/2008, CJH Translations, which primarily specialises in French into English translation work as well as in occasional German into English translation work. • Standard rates – £85.00 / €100.00 per 1,000 words (£0.085 / €0.10 per s/w). Urgent rates – can be negotiated, but are higher than standard rates.

I translate for a number of organisations, offering my services free of charge, most recently the organisation called “Translators without Borders (TWB). Past work has involved:
• Translating subtitles of an interview with a peace pilgrim for a 30-minute video clip (7,500 words) for the organisation called “Peace Pilgrims”.
• Translation of a ‘Terms and Conditions of Use’ webpage for “Translations for Progress” (2,000 words).

Nov. 2007 Quality Assurance proofreader for The Big Word, Leeds
• My responsibilities included thoroughly checking through the translated documents against the source text for accuracy and formatting issues. The subject was the American MTV awards, which were broadcast in November 2007.
2006 – 2007 M.A. in Applied Translation Studies (French-English)
• Included four key translation projects using CAT tools such as Trados, Passolo, Déjà Vu and Omega-T.
• Also Project Manager of the CAT tool STAR Transit and the terminology tool STAR TermStar. Involved managing a team of eight translators with different language combinations, generating different source file types and then proofreading them.
• Member of the CLEANEVAL project (http://cleaneval.sigwac.org.uk/) at the University of Leeds from January to March 2007. Included preparation of more than 250 French web pages for translation using Notepad ++.
• Member of the ecolore project (http://ecolore.leeds.ac.uk/) whose role was to translate 5 articles of 500 words without the aid of a dictionary.
• I possess a typewriting speed of 58 words per minute.
GENERAL EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
2007 – 2008 Grounds maintenance worker at HollyBank Trust (Mirfield)
• Maintaining the vast outdoor grounds of a home for children and adults with physical disabilities and learning difficulties.
• Redecorated and repainted various corridors of the care home.
2006 – 2007 Language Promoter & Open Day Guide (University of Leeds)
• Promoted the benefits of learning a foreign language to pre-GCSE students.
• Showed prospective students around the university on several occasions and enjoyed demonstrating the advantages of language learning to them.

• Kitchen supervisor and a member of the serving staff at a premier West Yorkshire dining and golf location.

SOCIAL INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES
SPORTS: Captain of a successful 5-a-side football team in the university league as well as being the organiser of its social events (social secretary). Also is able to play to a reasonable standard the following sports in no particular order: squash, tennis, table tennis, golf, cricket, pool and tenpin bowling.
LANGUAGES: Keen interest in foreign languages, having studied beginner’s level Dutch (A*) and Spanish (B) at university as elective subjects up to GCSE standard. A native speaker of English, fluent in French and highly competent in German.
FILMS: French films such as Le Dernier Métro, Le Dîner de Cons, La Haine, Les Amants du Pont-neuf and La Bataille d’Alger. American comedy films featuring Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler. I go to the cinema at least once a month.
FURTHER ACHIEVEMENTS
PREFECT: As a sixth form prefect at secondary school, this task included responsibilities such as looking after a class of 30 pupils.
LIBRARY REP.: Elected as undergraduate student representative by fellow students for the Staff-Student Library Committee representing the French Department.
POSTGRAD. REP.: Elected as postgraduate student representative by fellow students for the Board of Modern European Languages & Cultures.
DRIVING SKILLS: Holder of a full clean UK driving licence since September 2006.
